Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! The tour is free as I want to show as many people as possible around this wonderful city. However, running Tom’s Tours is my full time job and I do try to make a living out of it.

Most people opt to give a tip at the end of the tour, whether that be a few coins, £5, £10, or even more if they really enjoyed it – whatever you think the tour was worth! Despite this, there is no obligation whatsoever to part with any money.

The tour starts on St Aldate’s Street at the gates to Broad Walk, opposite the Independent Cafe.

It finishes in Radcliffe Square.

The tour normally lasts approximately 2 hours. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles and on flat ground.

The main objective of the tour is to uncover the weird and wonderful history of Oxford and its university, as well as telling the stories of its many residents, both famous and obscure.

Just bring yourself! Make sure you plan for the English weather and wear appropriate footwear. We will be walking on some cobbled streets.

Unfortunately not. Many colleges are not open all the time and charge high fees for tours to enter meaning the logistics is too difficult.

However, I will certainly talk a whole lot about many of the colleges and you will be able to see them from the outside.

If you wish to pay entry fees to some colleges during the rest of your day then I’m happy to give you some recommendations and extra info.

All tours advertised are group tours. If you would like a private tour then please get in touch using the contact details at the bottom of the page and I may be able to accommodate.

For the moment, all tours will be run in English. However, I do speak French and Spanish to a high level and if you enquire about a private tour (see above) then this could be organised.

If you come on a normal tour and need anything clarifying in either French/Spanish, then I’m more than happy to help.
